Mina Abdullah EPC Package 1, Clean Fuels Project
The project encompassed the construction of new units (greenfield), installation of new units within an existing facility, and the revamping of existing refinery units (brownfield). Major works included the construction and pre-commissioning of key process units such as a Crude Distillation Unit, two Atmospheric Residue Desulfurization Units, a Heavy Oil Cooling Unit, a Diesel Hydrotreater (DHT), a DHT flare, and interconnecting pipe racks.
Additionally, the project involved the revamp of seven existing units at the Shuaiba Refinery, including inter-refinery transfer lines and over 900 tie-ins. The scope also covered EPC delivery of four maintenance and operations buildings and 15 substation buildings.
The comprehensive scope spanned all engineering disciplines—civil, structural, mechanical, underground and aboveground piping, electrical, instrumentation, and telecommunications. With the production of ultra-low sulfur fuel products, the project significantly enhances Kuwait’s position in the global energy market, aligning with its long-term sustainability and energy diversification goals.
