The North Field South (NFS)

The North Field South (NFS) project, in conjunction with the North Field East (NFE) development, features one of the largest carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) facilities in the world. This initiative represents a significant step toward achieving QatarEnergy’s goal of capturing and sequestering over 11 million tons per annum (MTPA) of CO₂ by 2035, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy and environmental stewardship.

The NFS project will include facilities to capture and sequester carbon dioxide, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 25%.

Beyond its environmental significance, the project is expected to drive substantial economic growth through increased revenue, job creation, and infrastructure development. It will also strengthen global energy security by expanding LNG supply capacity, further reinforcing Qatar’s leadership in the international energy market.

What truly distinguishes these projects is the seamless integration of large-scale carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology within a major LNG expansion. This pioneering approach positions Qatar at the forefront of efforts to balance energy production with climate action, setting a global benchmark for sustainable energy development.
