On Nov. 14th, a group of undergraduate students including four women engineers from the Environmental Engineering department of the American University of Sharjah had the unique opportunity to conduct a site visit at Al Zahia City Center (ZCC), a LEED Gold project that is currently being constructed by CCC for Majid Al Futtaim.
This interactive experience was designed by CCC to enhance students’ understanding of real construction practices and as a tangible way of becoming engaged with sustainability and green building.
The visit allowed students to learn about the LEED project certification process and progress made so far, the structure and finishing works and how this development uses fewer natural resources and benefits the community.
The site visit was conducted by Samir Thabet, CCC Sustainability Coordination Manager and Abdallah Anasweh ZCC Sustainability Engineer. It included a presentation on the project’s LEED requirements and the environmental best practices implemented such as carbon and waste management as well as an open discussion about corporate sustainability and how CCC is aligning business objectives with the UN SDG’s. A tour of the project site was carried out to demonstrate how project management and sustainable construction are put into practice.
Maputo, November 8th 2019 -The inauguration of the borehole in Mulinda village, Mozambique took place on Friday the 8th of November. Attendees included the local authority representatives, community leaders, and members from both the local community and the nonprofit organization WaterAid Mozambique.
With a population of 750 people, Mulinda’s community was consuming dirty water from the Muchimazi River, about 4km away from the village. Albeit highly polluted, the river was still being used for drinking water, washing and bathing. This led to the outbreak of water-related diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera.
Firstly, a water committee was formed and trained on the management and maintenance of the borehole. Following the training, door to door visits at a household level took place to promote safe hygiene practices.
WaterAid National Director Adam Garley said: “Access to water for this community will mean a significant improvement in their lives as women will have more time to devote to production and school children will spend more time in the classroom.”
CCC’s partnership with WaterAid is based on their mutual mission of improving the quality of life of disadvantaged people. Thanks to WaterAid Mozambique which has provided CCC with the opportunity to turn our goals and commitment into reality.

International Day of Peace 2019 highlights combatting climate change as a way to promote peace throughout the world. Climate change threatens international peace by affecting the safety of people, where they can live and what they can eat.
CCC is combating climate change through its Green Building projects, built to the highest ecological standards to ensure minimal environmental impact and resource efficiency. As women are disproportionately affected by climate change, especially in developing countries, gender equality has to be part of the solution.
We are proud to share the profiles of six incredible CCC women who are leaving their distinctive mark on some of CCC’s Green Building projects.

On June 7th, fourteen CCC volunteers and their children cleaned Saronida beach. In two hours the volunteers collected all kinds of waste that could be very harmful for marine life and learned that by keeping their environment trash free they help protect and preserve marine life and that each individual can better the sea’s ecosystem by playing their part in keeping the beaches clean.
Marine life, dwelling in the water, are affected by waste on beaches. Plastic pollution alone affects 100 million marine mammals each year. When the tides rise, they collect items on the beach and take the items out when the water lowers, including trash which directly have negative effects on marine life.
In the two hours spent cleaning the beach, the volunteers collected around 783 harmful waste products such as cigarette butts, plastic packaging products and bottles, plastic cups and plates, paper, cans, and pieces of broken glass, among other harmful products that could trickle into the ocean and directly affect the marine life.
