Riyadh Metro Engineering, Procurement & Construction

Working in a Consortium comprising of a Civil Works Joint Venture and a Transit System Contractor. The Civil Works Joint Venture consists of Bechtel, Almabani and CCC in Consortium with the Transit System Contractor, Siemens (BACS).

The consortium is responsible for the design and builds of Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh metro network. These two lines will form part of the six-line metro system that will run for a total length of 176 kilometres across the city and includes 85 stations. The Riyadh Metro Project is implemented by the Arriyadh Development Authority, the executive arm of The High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh. (see map).

BACS scope of work on Lines 1 and 2 encompasses detailed structural, architectural, civil, MEP and transit system design together with construction, testing and commissioning works.

BACS is fully responsible for the design and integration of the transit systems and the civil infrastructure.

The key components of the Riyadh Metro line 1 & 2 scopes include:

  • 16 km of Bored Tunnels
  • 2 km of Mined Tunnels
  • 1 km of Cut and Cover Tunnel
  • 25 km of Viaducts
  • 19 km of At-Grade
  • 20 km Depot Track
  • 3 No. Depots
  • 38 No. Stations including KAFD Main Station that was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects & Olaya Transfer Station. KAFD Main Station is targeting LEED Silver status.
  • 4 No. Park and Ride Structures

A total of 28,000 workforces have been mobilized on this project.
